I was born and raised in Little Village, Chicago my neighborhood were many killings are happening and gang rivalry is non-stop. The cause of gang involvement is the lack of green space and buildings for children to attend and provide the children with activities. More open parks and green space means there’s more children outside having fun and actually being a kid.
Without support it’s easy for children to get influenced to bad things such as gangs and making bad decisions in life. While park space may seem an odd solution to street violence, many parents and community leaders say it's just what the neighborhood needs. We have one of the youngest populations in Chicago needs.
This why in our neighborhood we should have more parks for children to play and get away from the violence. Once again we see that Chicago is being ignored for another 30 shootings in the Windy City over the August 22 weekend. More shockingly, during the carnage several children were shot this weekend, adding to an incident earlier this week in which a nine year old boy was shot six times. Children shouldn’t be afraid to play outside and the only reason is because their parents don’t let them because of the shootings among rival gang members. Chicago isn’t the problem the issue is the lack of support to keep the weapons off the streets so that members are not able to use. Green spaces have been shown to create neighborhoods with fewer violent and property crimes and where neighbors tend to support and protect one another.
This is why there has to be more green space in Chicago Neighborhoods so that the community can stay proactive and people can continue building relationships, making the community a safe and good environment. Public housing residents with nearby trees and natural landscapes reported 25% fewer acts of domestic aggression and violence.Proving my point that Chicago needs more green Space and the number of violence will reduce. There are many young children In Chicago Neighborhoods and they need green space so they can play and interact with one another to create unity.
